Professor Mearsheimer is correct on Ukraine; but, he is wrong on China. Chinese people inherently love peace. China has not fired a bullet over the past 40 years against any other nation while it had risen together with the majority of countries in Asia. If you really understand the Chinese culture, you will realize that that majority of Chinese have been influenced by the lessons from the Confucius over the past two thousand years. One of the most influential essences is to adopt the lesson of "middle pole" between the two poles. It is Confucius' "The Golden Mean" that steers China away from extremes. That is what President Xi is showing the world about this Chinese value by brokering peace deals between confronting opponents. But, let us not argue about the boring cultural things. Instead, let us examine the other aspects of the Chinese society. Sports: Historically, the fights between gladiators in ancient Rome as an entertainment were brutal, cruel and inhumane. The aggressive western culture is fully revealed from the deadly sports. Today, American people love football game. It is much better than the fight-to-death entertainment between the gladiators. But, it is still very aggressive. This aggressiveness also revealed itself on the foreign policy. No wonder America has been invading many nations as it sees fit without the approval of the United Nation. On the other hand, Chinese people did not like barbarian sports since ancient time. Today, soccer, basketball, and ping-pong are the most popular sports in China. This indicates that most Chinese people are not aggressive in nature. And, this gentle nature combined with the pains it has endured from the aggressive nations taught the Chinese government how to deal with many developing nations with respect. The goal is always win-win instead of the live-and-enslave western mentality. Religion: In China, about 15% of the Chinese people are Buddhists while 10% are Taoist. These two religions do not belong to the category of Monotheism which worships a single god. The religious persecution that drove settlers from Europe to the American colonies showed that the Monotheists could be non-flexible. In China’s history, religion had not been the primary reason used to initiate a war with other nations (e.g., Holy War and Crusades). Race:The majority of the people in China are Hans. The great warriors of Genghis Khan’s soldiers who invaded Europe were Mongolians. From time to time, they and the other ethnic minorities around China posed great threats to the Han Chinese kingdoms. In most cases, the Hans were just playing defense. Playing defense seems to be the norm of the Chinese policy until 2016 when Trump took over. Nowadays, Chinese people had enough of it. They started to fight back except towards the USA sometimes because China is forever grateful to USA for ending Japan’s aggression on China (www.japantimes.co.jp/culture/2013/08/24/books/book-reviews/chinas-contribution-to-japans-defeat/). Japanese soldiers killed 20 millions of Chinese during that period. Neighborhood relationship: China has treated its neighbors well as reflected by the coherent rise of almost all Asian nations. There were some minor conflicts between China and India in 2019/2020. But, to the disappointment of some western nations, nothing serious really happened because of the agreement signed by the two nations prohibiting the use of modern weapons. That shows the gentle and restraint nature of both nations. China has no intention to treat any nation as enemy. Instead, China would be willing to corporate with any nation as long as this nation shows basic respect. If you are still not convinced about the gentle nature of Chinese people, think this way. It could have been great for the world and for the USA to have China at the other end of the bipolar world power. In fact, some nations in the world are only aligning with USA on the surface to avoid being bullied by the USA. Deep inside, they know that USA is the bully and just try to contain China to hang on to its world power. The only exception may be Japan which acts as the watchdog for USA. But, Japan might resist if America were to order them to attack China/Russia in a proxy war. Ultimately, USA has to face directly against China/Russia or the USA has to accept the United Nation based rule system. This bi-polar or multi-polar world power system could benefit USA and the world tremendously. Had it happened in year 2000, USA might have avoided many wars that were hurting other nations as well as itself. USA could have saved $10T (including the war in Ukraine, www.brown.edu/news/2021-09-01/costsofwar) not to mention the lives that can be spared. If it were indeed so, God would have been truly pleased with USA. So, Professor Mearsheimer, please add the above to your analysis and have mercy for the people in this world. Don’t Ukrainize Taiwan while having three USA aircraft carriers sunk in the pacific ocean as revealed in the war game simulations. Please explore these above points in your next visit to China. If you really understand the gentle nature of the Chinese people, please stop advocating the need to contain China militarily. If President Xi were to believe what you said about defending Taiwan, he might have added 1500 nuclear war heads to PLA’s arsenal. If USA/Japan are to fight China/Russia in a nuclear war over Taiwan, China, USA, Japan and the whole world will be doomed.

The John Mearsheimer fallacy and failure of logic and commonsense. What a terrible miscalculation regarding artificially sowing Taiwan conflict which the watching world abhors and despises. In his imperialist mind and sadistic colonial heart, Mearsheimer arrogantly and stupidly supports the following seeds of destruction fatal to America: I'd like to keep another country's territory because that would be of strategic value to myself as leverage to militarily coerce, intimidate, control and socially engineer strife amongst peoples (Chinese) whom we don't really respect or care much about, if at all. I'd like to own and control another part of the world that is not my own and in foreign lands already far from me. I have no problems with creating disharmony, deliberate loss of life, economic mayhem, social upheaval and sowing discord amongst citizens of other countries to preserve my own primacy as a big boss power. I am essentially a malevolent, aggressive. predatory and authoritarian dictator who is self entitled enough to think nothing of undermining foreign sovereignty for my own profit. Leave morality and right versus wrong out of it. You own something I want, so I'm going to steal it. Other allied vassal countries will lose lives as my accomplices serving my goal which in reality is to steal, kill and destroy. Mearsheimer is a bully and a thug at heart. Strip him of his professorship. He lacks wisdom and is himself being used. He is enriching himself as a lackey to the US military industrial complex and a compromised peddler of very dangerous US propaganda.

China's population is going to collapse and it won't be able to take care of the elderly. It has a fertility rate of 1.16 and little to no immigration. The question is whether it will court a conflict with the US as a unifying distraction. And if we are dumb enough to keep antagonizing China, that becomes dramatically more likely.

At some point it's us or them. And at that point I choose us. Can you imagine China getting into Mexico and helping it economically like it does in Africa. Let's now say that the United States doesn't like it and China then had to protect Mexico because it has business interests and investments. The United States government would flip it's lid. At some point China will roam like we do and that would make Ukraine look like a joke compared to what the US government would do to Mexico. It's just how the world works. There are two ways of thinking about this. Sone see the world how they wish it could be. Others see the world as it really is. I see the latter because that is reality.

China was rising in the 1420s, when it sent out the most powerful fleets in the world. Then internal financial problems caused China to turn inwards and scrap its fleet. Currently, the Communist Party maintains control by creating economic growth. If that growth falters, the CCP could lose control and China could turn inwards. It could happen.

Clarifying lecture that elucidates US-led world imperialism. (1) Mearsheimer correctly forecast that if Russia invaded Ukraine that it would be "in the briar patch because it's so difficult to invade these days" (2) Mearsheimer thought a third Intifada was unlikely. US military distracted in Ukraine and Palestine gives China more room to develop peacefully and more military room to project strength in their hemisphere. (3) World socialism is the key to preventing WWIII. The cause of labor is the hope of the world 🕊️🌍

Mearsheimer is quite willing to use a sledgehammer or a pile driver to make a square peg fit into a round hole. He has a theory and an ideology and dammit, the research will fit no matter what it takes. Can China rise peacefully? No. Could China rise peacefully if the US was not a consideration? No. Can the CCP be peaceful even to its own people without rising? No. Has China's CCP been 'peaceful' or has it merely been aggressive just below the level of Acts of War most of the time? Did Mao NOT demand an eternal struggle and did Xi not echo that?

As much as I respect Prof Mearsheimer, he's a Sinophobe due to his lack of understanding of the Chinese history and Chinese psyche. His argument that China is a threat to US but not Russia is flawed - during her millennia old history even when her naval fleet was the largest and powerful and her technology + industrial base was the most advanced in the world (pre-Columbus 14/15th centuries when the Chinese fleet sailed as far as the Red Sea), China never threatened any other power beyond its traditional sphere of influence namely Eastern Asia! By contrast, when you look at the history of Russia she certainly is inclined to expansionism spanning the whole of the Eurasian Continent from the Pacific to the Atlantic. The Chinese have always been content to be master of what they deem their own established ancestral home turf - from the Hilmalayas to the Pacific-South China Sea, and from the Mongolian Steppe to the Mekong River. When projecting his theory of the China Threat, Professor Mearsheimer merely mirrors and superimposes the historical Anglo-European colonial aggression and expansionism onto China ignoring China's history as well as the collective Chinese psyche/identity, and this fatal mistake leads to his monumental misjudgement.

And there's considerable involvement of the West in the conflict, although there are no troops of other European nations and the US involved. Let's hope nothing escaletes in Asia.

On starting to lay out his theory , he says we are not sure of future behavior of China ! Whereas we know historically thinking China is among the most peaceful nation in the past 4 to 500 years in the world and even more ! And we know how Today's China how it has reacted to our hegemonic warrior behavior ( of USA ) , when attacking Korea , China stepped in and stopped our complete conquest of Korea in 1952 , then we tried with Vietnam , and got a bloody nose and had to escape and withdraw completely in 1975 after 4 years of intense genocidal bombing and fighting ! Then we tried to get in the backdoor of China from Afghanistan's side , there even after two wars and second lasting over 20 years we had to withdraw abruptly and leaving billions of dollars of war materials and technologies ! So we know now with China , starting to aid Chiang KaySchek we lost , Korea , no success , Vietnam Loss , twice Afghanistan total loss , who , except a crazy person would think that USA against China will win over Taiwan or else ???? No need to theorize here you can look at history and say USA will certainly loose now , deeply in Debt and lots of people in USA against Permanent Wars' doctrine today in 2024 !
